Ease of Use: 5.0/5
What Is AskVet? How Does It Work?
If you’ve ever wondered if you need to take your pet to a vet or if you just need to wait it out, then AskVet is exactly what you were looking for. It’s a subscription service that gives you 24/7 access to a chat with a vet so they can answer any questions that you might have.
That’s the primary service of AskVet, but it’s important to note that that’s not the only service that it offers. It also has “Pet Lifestyle Plans,” rainy-day funds, and even free ID tags.
With AskVet, you pay a flat monthly rate and get access to all these features whenever you need them, giving your pet more care and yourself more confidence that you’re doing the right thing for them.
Even better, it’s extremely easy to use, and you only need one account for all your pets. This gives you a one-stop shop for farm animals, cats, dogs, and even exotic pets.
AskVet — A Quick Look
One of the reasons so many people get AskVet is that it’s significantly cheaper than traditional vet visits. For a limited time, you can lock in AskVet for just $9.99 a month. That’s 24-hour access to a vet, 365 days a year, for a price that costs less than a single wellness checkup!
However, that $9.99 price tag is only available for a limited time; after that, the cost will go up to $29.99 a month. While that’s still a great deal for what you’re getting, it highlights the importance of signing up early.
What to Expect From
When you sign up and use AskVet, you can expect an extremely responsive care team that will treat you and your pet like you are their top priority. They do this by giving you instant access to vets through their 24/7 chat and their one-on-one pet lifestyle plans.
AskVet wants you to feel like you’re getting a premium service, so it gives you access to any information that you need with the click of a button. It’s easy to use and sign up for, and if you decide to cancel, it’s easy to do that too.
When you sign up, you’ll be asked for a few pictures of your pet, but you don’t need to get too fancy with it. Once you put in basic information, it will give you advice for your pet, and then you will schedule a pet lifestyle plan meeting (free with your subscription) to get a plan tailored specifically for your pet.

24/7 Vet Chat
This is probably what most people consider AskVet’s top feature, and it’s not hard to see why. When your pet is experiencing a medical problem, the last thing that you want to do is wait for an appointment to open up.
You also don’t want to spend excessive amounts of money taking your pet to an emergency vet if they don’t need it. That’s where AskVet’s 24/7 vet chat thrives. Whenever you need advice from a vet, they’re there to help you out.
Pet Lifestyle Plans
One of the best features of AskVet is its Pet Lifestyle Plan. It starts with a one-on-one meeting between you and a Pet Lifestyle Expert. During this meeting, they will get to know you and your pet and come up with a plan for nutrition, training, behavior, and overall wellness.
It’s easy to set up and use, and it’s completely free with your AskVet subscription.
One of the features that I really liked about AskVet is its Rainy-Day Funds. Every month that you keep your subscription, it adds $45 to the rainy-day fund, up to $1,000. You can use these funds in an emergency to help offset costs.
However, while this a great feature, using it can feel unnecessarily restrictive. For instance, one of the events that it covers is your pet getting hit by a car. However, before you can take your pet to the vet, you need to log on and get permission from AskVet to use your emergency funds.
That’s simply not what you’re thinking of in a pet emergency, and it won’t cover anything if you try to get approval after an event.
Free One Pet ID
Sometimes despite our best efforts, our beloved pet slips out of the house. When that happens, it’s essential that you have a way to get them back. That’s why AskVet includes a free One Pet ID with your subscription.
This is a scannable tag that links directly to your home and can even send alerts to your phone when someone finds your pet. It’s easy to use and greatly increases the chance of getting your pet back if they get lost.
Is AskVet a Good Value?
AskVet is great value for everything that you’re getting. Even if you never use the Rainy-Day Funds, everything else that AskVet gives you for a low monthly rate is outstanding.
You get access to a trained vet whenever you need it, taking all the guesswork out of what you should do if your pet is under the weather.
FAQ: AskVet Subscription Service Review
Before you sign up for an account, read over these frequently asked questions that people have about AskVet.
Can You Access Your AskVet Account on Multiple Devices?
Yes! Not only can you access your AskVet account on multiple devices, but both accounts use the subscription simultaneously. So, if you and someone else are caring for the same pet, you only need one account for you both to have full access to AskVet.
How Much Do One Pet IDs Cost?
They’re free! You get a One Pet ID for each of your pets, free of charge, with your AskVet subscription. If you lose the tags, it will send you new ones for free. It’s a feature that never costs you a dime.
How Do You Use the Rainy-Day Fund?
If your pet has a qualifying emergency, you will have to reach out through the app to contact a vet. They’ll approve you to use your rainy-day funds, and then you will have 10 hours to get to a vet and treat your pet.
Go to the vet, pay for the service, and then submit the receipt to AskVet for reimbursement. As long as you got approval beforehand, you shouldn’t have a problem!
If You Cancel Your Membership, Do You Keep Access to the Rainy-Day Fund?
No. However, if you cancel your membership and decide to reactivate it within 7 days, you will get instant access to your rainy-day funds again. However, after the 7-day period, you’ll need to create a new account and start over and rebuild your rainy-day funds.
Our Experience With AskVet
When I signed up for AskVet, I didn’t know what to expect. However, it was an easy process. I submitted a few pictures of Roxie, my 45-pound mixed-breed dog, created her profile, and then AskVet gave me a few recommendations about rash issues that she has had in the past.
I signed up on my computer, and as soon as I finished the process, a QR code appeared that made it easy to download the app to my mobile device.
On the app, I was able to quickly sign in and set up a one-on-one “Pet Lifestyle Plan” meeting, and it was easy to reach out to a vet through the chat service for any particular issues that I had.
But while all those are great features, what really surprised me was the ability to add more pets to my plan without spending any more money. All I had to do was click, “add a pet,” and put in the information for my cats.
This meant that with just one subscription, I could get 24/7 advice for all my pets, and I can keep adding pets that I might get in the future. Getting this support without any additional fees is an outstanding feature.
You need to do more to care for your pet than to go in for a wellness checkup once a year at the vet’s office. Your pet can’t communicate with you the same way that other people can, and many conditions often get overlooked or missed for much longer than they should.
AskVet can help with that, giving you constant access to a vet to help you address issues and give you guidance as soon as things crop up. Give it a try, and we’re sure that AskVet will impress you with all that it has to offer!
